Safari packing list - essentials
- Clothes - Fleece top for cool mornings and evenings shirts/t-shirts, sun hat, longer length shorts, long trousers to cover up in the evenings (mosquito time), light windproof/waterproof jacket (can be cool in the evenings and Ngorongoro Crater floor)
- Small towel
- Sport sandals, light hiking boots, trainers or slip-ons
- Sleeping bag if camping (1 or 2 season)
- Day pack, large enough for your day time items e.g. water bottle, sun hat, glasses, sun block etc
- Sunglasses
- Binoculars
- Watch or alarm clock
- First aid items e.g. anti-histamine, lip salve, mosquito repellent, antiseptic, after-sun, Imodium (or something similar for mild diarrhoea), rehydration powder (especially if going on a walking safari), Paracetamol/Asprin and any prescription medications you may be taking e.g. anti-malaria (the driver/guide will also be carrying a small first-aid kit)
- Personal toiletry items (preferably biodegradable)
- Contact lenses and/or prescription spectacles
- Antiseptic gel or wet wipes for freshening up
- Torch and spare batteries/bulb
- Note book and pen
- Pocket knife
- Camera and spare batteries
- Small plastic bags
- Energy snacks and drinks
- Handkerchief
- Cash in US$ or Tanzania shillings for tips and small notes or coins for incidental purchases (Massai Morani may ask for small money for permission to take photographs)
- Money belt
Documants to bring:
- Passport (with photocopies)
- Travel insurance (with photocopies)
- Yellow fever certificate – not now compulsory
- USD cash and traveler’s cheques
