Lake Natron
This bizarrely beautiful soda lake attracts sometimes hundreds of thousands of flamingo.
The lake lies of the beaten track to the north of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the border of Kenya.
Lake Natron's extreme alkalinity is caused by sodium leaching from the nearby active volcano Oldonyo Lengai.
The algae growing within the lake is a major source of food for flamingoes. The lake is one of the most important flamingo breeding sites in the world.
