Lake Eyasi

The soda lake, on the south west border of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is home for the Hadzabe tribe, Tanzania's last hunter gatherers.

Situated between the Rift Valley's Eyasi escarpment and the Kidero mountains, this remote and seldom visited area is hot and dry but worth a visit to experience the harsh reality of the African bush and to stand beneath the shadow of the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

Lake Eyasi is home to the Hadzabe bushmen, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes on the African continent.

Highlights: Hiking below the Great Rift Valley escarpment; joining the Hadzabe for a morning bush walk, gathering honey and finding traditional healing plants.

Access to the soda lake is by foot only.
