Rongai route is the only route beginning on the north eastern slopes of Kilimanjaro.
The trail is a gradual 6 day ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Begin with easy hiking on the first day within the rain forest (you may be lucky to see some wildlife). As the ascent continues hiking days become more rugged and weather exposed on crossing the saddle under Mawenzi peak.
The route joins Marangu route at Kibo Hut. Rest here before the beginning the summit ascent on a zig-zag path via Gilman's Point. The descent from the summit to the gate is via Marangu route.
Rongai is a camping route. The huts on the descent are occupied by Marangu route hikers.
On the Marangu route descent there is access to basic toilet blocks and water taps.
